- Ban on Growing Poisonous Plants in Abu Dhabi
Abu Dhabi authorities have imposed a complete ban on the cultivation and trade of the poisonous oleander plant
The Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority (ADAFSA) has issued a complete ban on the cultivation, propagation, and trade of oleander shrubs throughout the emirate. This decision has been made to ensure public safety and protect against the risks associated with the high toxicity of this plant.
Oleander, despite its ornamental value and frequent use in landscaping, is a highly poisonous plant. All parts of the plant – leaves, stems, flowers, and seeds – contain toxic substances that can cause severe poisoning, even death, if ingested by humans or animals. Symptoms of oleander poisoning include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, heart rhythm disturbances, and other life-threatening conditions.
