- Flamingo Rehabilitation Program Completed in Abu Dhabi
In Abu Dhabi, 10 flamingos have been successfully rehabilitated and released back into the wild
The Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi (EAD), in partnership with Yas SeaWorld Research and Rescue Center, has completed a successful rehabilitation program for 10 greater flamingos. The birds were affected by severe storms that hit the Al Wathba Wetland Reserve in February this year.
The injured and weakened flamingos were taken to a specialized center for veterinary care and rehabilitation. Thanks to the efforts of the specialists, the birds regained their health and were able to return to the wild.
The greater flamingo is a crucial species for the Abu Dhabi ecosystem. Every year, thousands of these birds migrate to the region for wintering. The Al Wathba Reserve serves as one of the key breeding and resting sites for flamingos.
