UAE Warns of Health Risks Associated with Kitchen Sponges
Healthcare experts in the UAE have cautioned the public about the potential health risks of kitchen sponges. According to recent studies, these everyday kitchen items can become breeding grounds for harmful bacteria that can lead to various illnesses.
Research conducted by scientists at the University of Sharjah has revealed that kitchen sponges provide an ideal environment for the growth of pathogenic bacteria such as E. coli, Salmonella, and Staphylococcus aureus. These microorganisms can cause severe food poisoning, skin infections, and other health issues.
Prolonged use of the same sponge contributes to the development of antibiotic-resistant bacterial strains. It is recommended to replace kitchen sponges every 1-2 weeks to minimize these risks.
