UAE's Natural Lagoons
Lagoons in Abu Dhabi and Umm Al Quwain generate $23 million in revenue per year
A study by the foundation, Emirates Nature – WWF, has highlighted:
– Economic Potential of Protecting Marine Habitats
– Need for a Nature-positive Tourism Model
Coastal lagoons, Khor Al Beidah and Khor Faridah, attract 18,000 tourists annually
Lagoons' Features:
- Haven for Endangered Species
- 900,000 Tonnes of Carbon Storage
- Protection Against Coastal Erosion
- 27% of UAE's Coastline
The largest water reservoir worth $78 million has been commissioned in Dubai
Its storage capacity is 144 million gallons.
This is part of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) project, Aquifer Storage and Recovery (ASR).
The goal is to raise water reserves to meet the growing demand and to prepare the city for emergencies.
